Life on the Streets in Uganda

Picture
An estimated 1.1 million children in Uganda have lost either one of or both their parents. Thousands of young children and adolescents sleep on pieces of cardboard in doorways, parking lots and bus stations. They beg for money, sell merchandise or engage in petty theft in order to survive. Approximately one third of them are only 10 to 14 years old.  Uganda is, demographically speaking, a very young nation. Nearly 40 per cent of the country's population is under the age of 14. However, the hardships that many young Ugandans face are overwhelming.  Around 160,000 Ugandan children have been orphaned due to AIDS and are now facing a life without their biological parents.  AIDS has wiped out an entire generation of parents; forcing thousands of children to never receive an education, Parental Love and Care. No education. No job, No HOPE.  In addition, Uganda is in the middle of a Global food crisis - the cost and availability food is very challenging right now so the need has never been greater.  DCCO was started in 2017 by a young man who lived on the streets - Ssemanda Yusufu.  Our mission is to bring these kids off of the streets and provide food, clean water, shelter, medication, education and a job to help them become self sustaining.

My Story

Picture
I remember and it’s like nightmare when I remember those days on the streets where we could not have hope for food, education, accommodation, medication and water!  The battle was for all of us on the streets - no blankets no mattresses, no security BUT see what the Lord has done through our Facebook friends and family brick by brick one by one step by step we have reached this far where children are secure with food, clothes accommodations and the place where they can play from. Yes it’s small but it’s far better than streets which we used as our homes. Join us to thank God. God uses people and it’s you among the many who has built Divine CHILD CARE Orphanage. Let’s continue to join our hands together and we continue to support these kids with food, clothing, medicine, and education.

We Need Your Help

Urgent Need:  More funds are still needed to help provide on-going food, medical care, and education for the kids.  We continue to run into food shortages that put the kids at risk.   We've setup up a new GofundMe to raise funds for food, medicine, education, clothes, and other needs.  Please visit:  gofund.me/64dcf0e5

It's important to note that our giving fluctuates considerably and we really need new sponsors to join us as we attempt to continue to meet all of the needs at the orphanage.  We had a fence built around the property to keep the thieves off of the property and to bring added security and protection for all of the kids. Unfortunately food was stolen from the kitchen and it became a big problem that the fence was able to resolve.  Thanks to our friends of the ministry that made this all possible.

The orphanage is funded by a collection of like minded folks who have a heart for orphans - the ministry is totally run on the free will offerings of generous souls who want to give these kids a hope and a future.  The needs are endless - food, clothes, medicine, education and we welcome others to jump in and make a difference.  Some of our faithful sponsors are selling products on Etsy with all proceeds going directly to the Orphanage.  Please visit www.etsy.com/shop/hopegrowsnow to purchase some great holiday gifts including Scones, Jams, and various other products.  Julie and Larry Voelz are selling Scone mixes in 3 wonderful flavors - Cranberry, Chocolate Chip, and Lemon for just $10.00 - a great gift for friends and family this holiday season.  Gluten-free scone mixes are available for $12.00.  Theresa and Mike Andre are selling a variety of delicious Jams and other products and have a heart to help these kids in need.  If you have products you would consider selling to help us at the orphanage, please contact Yusufu Ssemanda on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/418674038902653

We've come so far, but there's more to do

Check out the video that shows how God is moving in Uganda, and how to get involved.  Jesus Christ is at the very center of all we do at Divine Child Care Orphanage. Jesus calls each one of us to go and make disciples and these kids need to know that God hasn't forgotten them. Discipleship and training in God's Word is an important focus of our ministry too as we seek to advance the Kingdom of God.  100% of the donations go directly to feeding, clothing, and educating the children.   We invite you to join us in this walk of faith to see what God will do in all of our hearts.

Latest News - 2025 Fence Construction & Christmas Holidays

Greetings DCCO friends and family!  2025 has been a busy year with schooling, farming, and constructing a new fence around the property.   We also raised enough money to have a modest Christmas party for the kids.  Many thanks to our supporters who funded these projects to provide for the kids.
